The clock is ticking for one of the most significant savings opportunities in the Malaysian automotive market. As officially outlined in the Ministry of Finance’s Fiscal Outlook and Federal Government Revenue Estimates report, the excise duty exemptions for Completely Built-Up (CBU) Imported Electric Vehicles (EVs) will officially expire on December 31, 2025.

Starting 1 January 2026, imported EVs will lose their tax-free status, meaning the reintroduction of excise duties might cause a significant and immediate increase in the price of these highly sought-after models. Industry experts project that prices for imported EVs could surge dramatically once these duties are reinstated.

This is your final quarter to benefit from the current tax-free pricing for imported EVs.
