Do you remember how much it cost for you to get a driving license (inclusive of the classes and tests) back then?
Getting a driving license back then used to be way cheaper then it is now. We did a little digging (basically asked all our relatives of different ages how much they paid la) and found out this;
- The 1980s: Around RM200
- The 1990s: Around RM300 – RM400
- The 2000s: Around RM800 – RM900
- 2010 onwards: Around RM900-RM1,000
*These were the fees for Class D (car) driving license. Also does not apply for lesen kopi.
However, those rates are long gone.
The Malaysian Land Transport Bureau (JPJ) recently released a list of the standard fee for a driving license. Those who are planning to get a driving license in 2020 can refer to the prices below:
- B2 Motorcycle: RM250-RM450 (not exceeding 250cc)
- B Motorcycle: RM900-RM1100 (not more than 500cc)
- D manual transmission car: RM1150-RM1300
- D automatic transmission car: RM1250-1500
For Malaysians who have reached the age of 16, you can opt for a B2 motorcycle driving license. Those who are 17 years old or older can get a class D (car) driver’s license. However, only those aged 21 and above are allowed to apply for a class E (lorry) driver’s license.
In addition to the price, the government also allows the driving academy to charge transportation fees. These transportation fees include the fuel cost of the vehicle which is charged at RM0.50 per kilometre.
