Following the viral confrontation between a RapidKL bus driver and a group of cyclists on the road, Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd broke the silence and responded to the matter via a statement today (July 8).

Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd has investigated a video recording of the incident and stated that it occurred when the bus captain had difficulty driving after a group of cyclists pedalled in front of the vehicle.

“The situation became more complicated when some of the riders entered the left lane and blocked the bus’s path, forcing the driver to stop the vehicle and reprimand the group involved,” Rapid Bus said in a statement.

Commenting further, Rapid Bus stated that the incident then sparked a disagreement between the driver and the cyclist, before a JPJ officer, who happened to be passing through the area, intervened and calmed the situation.

The bus captain is undergoing counselling

Earlier, the footage went viral showing an argument between a group of cyclists and a bus driver on Jalan Bestari, Kuala Selangor. The incident began when a bus allegedly drove too close, almost hitting a group of cyclists who were said to be on the shoulder of the road.

Rapid Bus also stated that following the incident, the bus captain involved underwent a counselling session to help him manage the situation more calmly should a similar incident occur again in the future.

“Rapid Bus also stressed that all bus drivers under the company are always reminded to practice safe driving and comply with all set safety guidelines.”

In the meantime, Rapid Bus calls on the public to stay vigilant and obey road laws for the safety of all users. Cyclists in particular are advised to ride in a single file, without entering vehicle lanes, and not obstruct traffic movement to avoid any unwanted accidents, reported Malaysia Gazette.
