Considering the strict Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs), it can sometimes be difficult to run necessary errands, one of which is getting rid of old textbooks for new ones.

But thankfully, some schools are taking the initiative to make textbook exchanges as SOP-friendly for parents as possible.

As according to The Sun Daily, both the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) St Paul in Seremban and the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Jelutong have implemented a drive-through system that allows parents to drop off old textbooks and pick up new ones without having to get down from their cars.

The latter school even included a timetable to ensure a smoother exchange process.

“We started by mapping out the route and logistics to make this possible. The old system required parents to walk into the school with the books and we realised this could raise the risk of infections,” shared SK St Paul headmaster, A. Santhanasamy, who came up with the idea through the need to avoid close contact.

“The safety of our staff is of utmost importance, so I thought it would be wise to introduce a drive-through system.”

All in all, the entire process only takes about a minute and it has raised morale among both parents and school staff.

“My staff are happy and they have even proposed that other programmes be structured using the same process. Parents of school-going children are equally delighted as it reduces waiting time and they can remain in the comfort of their vehicles while waiting for the new books,” he added.

With parent-teacher associations, as well as state and district education departments approving the new system, we might possibly see other schools implementing drive-through textbook exchanges too!
