This Teacher’s Day, Anugerah Guru Inspirasi McDonald’s 2022 is back with more heartwarming stories!❤️ In case you didn’t know, Anugerah Guru Inspirasi McDonald’s is an annual award that seeks to honour teachers for their efforts and hard work in shaping the younger generations, the country’s most valuable resources.
This year, the award received over 5,600 nominations from students across Malaysia, who shared unique and touching stories about their favourite teachers!
“We saw an increase in nominations from last year by over 1,200 entries. These heart-warming stories are a testament to the unwavering commitment of teachers in going beyond the call of duty to nurture their students in a holistic manner”, said Puan Hajah Melati Abdul Hai, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald’s Malaysia.
It made our day to see so many Malaysian students get together to show appreciation for our everyday heroes!
1. We’ve highlighted some heartwarming stories you shouldn’t miss!
“The stories that we read through the nomination submissions since the start of the pandemic reflect the strength of the human spirit, with teachers at the forefront as the driving force of our nation’s education system. As we enter the endemic phase, let us not forget the versatility, adaptability and more importantly, the resilience of teachers who showed up and delivered during times of uncertainties”, added Puan Hajah Melati.
Out of the many submissions and winning entries, some stories moved us deeply and we find the need to share them with you! (Here’s a gentle reminder to prepare some tissues?)
- Cikgu Siti Ainulmursyida, nominated by Kaviraj a/l Segar
“We used to have very limited digital learning facilities until Cikgu Siti Ainulmursyida came to our school. She worked exceptionally hard in seeking sponsors to improve our learning facilities.
Eventually, she managed to raise RM10,000 to build the Digital Library (Pusat Sumber Digital) in PPKI SMK Orkid Desa, which grants us access to Wi-Fi and monitors that facilitate our learning.
With learning games and applications made available to us, classes that were dull and stressful have now become fun and interesting.” — Kaviraj a/l Segar
- Cikgu Lerry David, nominated by Christen Glenn Majani
“When schools were abruptly closed during MCO, my classmates and I were forced to study from home with very limited internet access. We had difficulties completing our essay tasks due to the lack of face-to-face teaching and direct support from our teacher.
To strengthen our writing skills, Mr. Lerry David created an app called ‘Bijak Karangan’. The app consists of concise notes, sample essays, writing tips, and evaluation rubrics that are very helpful in guiding our essay writing. Most importantly, the app can be downloaded for free and used offline too!
Thanks to Mr. Lerry David, we were able to make consistent progress in our learning throughout MCO.” — Christen Glenn Majani
- Cikgu Chan Chin Ho, nominated by Alya Syauqina Binti Syaharum
“Mr. Chan is our counselling teacher who works hard to ensure the well-being of his students, regardless of their race, religion, and background. As a loving teacher, he always makes time to visit students who are ill, poor, or have lost their parents.
Besides, Mr Chan’s passion for art allows him to train and motivate like-minded students effectively. Under his leadership, students have won second place in multiple national video competitions, and the Theatre Club has won in two national competitions!
His wholesome character and achievements motivated me, and I thank him for being the most inspiring teacher I’ve ever met.” — Alya Syauqina Binti Syaharum
- Cikgu Leng Siew Lian, nominated by Harini a/p Dhevendaran
“Madam Leng goes the extra mile to provide us with a fun learning environment. She values the happiness of her students and can recognize troubled students at a glance.
Whenever I’m discouraged, Madam Leng never fails to motivate me by explaining the importance of challenging ourselves to conquer challenges.” — Harini a/p Dhevendaran
