What was supposed to be a windfall for this Prachinburi man turned out to be the tragic cause of his death. 20-year-old Nattawut Panompa had heard that during Songkran, a foundation had released a balloon sign attached with an envelope that supposedly contained THB9,999 (approx. RM1,250) of prize money.
According to Coconuts, he apparently saw the balloon sign hanging onto the electric cables above Suwannasorn Road and thinking that it was his lucky day, he hired a crane truck for THB2,000 (approx. RM250) to hoist him up and retrieve the envelope.
Unfortunately, he got electrocuted from the high-voltage overhead cables when trying to reach for the envelope and lost his life. Paramedics rushed to the scene and tried to revive him but it was too late.
His 19-year-old girlfriend, Kanittha Chang-on said that she had warned him repeatedly that he would be electrocuted if he attempted to get the envelope but he wouldn’t heed her warnings.
After this awful incident, the paramedics decided to take down the balloon sign so that other people would not suffer the same fate as Nattawut.
FYI, the amount of money inside the envelope wasn’t even close to the amount he thought it contained. Apparently, there was only THB825 (approx. RM103) inside, which either meant that other people had taken some of the money or there wasn’t even that much money inside to begin with.
The cash was contributed to Nattawut’s funeral.
Totally not worth endangering your life for this!
