A non-Muslim man got slapped by someone for eating in public during Ramadan at a convenience store in a shopping mall.
The 21-year-old shared his experience on X, saying he was asked to show his ID to prove he wasn’t Muslim. When he refused to show his IC, things got heated and turned into an argument.

“It never should’ve happened”
Johor Bahru North District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh later confirmed that the 21-year-old had filed a police report.
Tebrau MP Jimmy Puah Wee Tse shared his thoughts on the issue, saying this incident shouldn’t have happened in the first place. He pointed out that Malaysia is a multiracial country built on mutual respect and understanding.

He also stressed that no one has the right to act like a “moral police” and meddle in other people’s lives just because of their own beliefs, as reported by Sinar Harian.
“No one should interfere in other people’s lives based on their own standards. If that happens, society will break down, and we’ll end up passing on the wrong values to future generations,” he said.

We should respect everyone, Muslim or not.
The MP pointed out that everyone has their own way of life, and respect should be the key to a peaceful society.
“We should be encouraging tolerance and understanding, not criticism and control.”
He stressed that in a multicultural society, respect, tolerance, and understanding are what keep things peaceful and harmonious.
“Whether you’re Muslim or non-Muslim, we should respect each other and work together to keep society united. It’s not just about respect, it’s a shared responsibility to look out for each other,” he said.
