Starbucks Malaysia has partnered once again with Datuk Fazley Yaakob to introduce the second iteration of a newly curated menu that includes familiar classics and local street food favourites, but this time with a twist.
The new menu was officially launched on August 29, 2022, but fans in East Malaysia will need to wait a little longer until the end of this year to feast on the new, limited edition menu which offers a vibrant variety of innovative creations inspired by the food traditions that Chef Datuk Fazley fondly grew up with, combined with high-quality ingredients and a western spin.
If you’re a huge fan of the popular chain, here’s what you can expect from the new menu.
- Pau Sambal Malaysia
Pau & sambal has always been an iconic Malaysian staple. In fact, Pau Sambal has been around for a while, but with Chef Datuk’s Fazley’s creative re-imagination, his version of Pau Sambal comes in a doughnut, which is filled with chili sambal, eggs, cucumber and fried anchovies.
- Croissant Roti John
If you’ve never heard of Roti John, you’re probably not Malaysian enough. Despite the name, Roti John is as Malaysian as it gets. The popular street food is now available in Starbucks with a French twist! Featuring signature croissant buns, baked with spiced chicken, omelette and fresh coleslaw.
- Brioche Murtabak Ayam
Crispy on the edges but fleshy in the middle, the delectable meat foldovers that are frequently found in street hawker stalls across Malaysia have made its way to Starbucks. This traditional square pancake is filled with chicken and herb curry filling and rempah (Malaysian four spices).
- Ayam Percik Linguine
A fan of pasta but bored of the usual meatball marinara or carbonara? This time, Chef Datuk Fazley has took the opportunity to “recreate” the iconic food in Ramadan Bazaars across Malaysia in the form of an Italian pasta dish – meet the Ayam Percik Linguine.
Marinated chicken is sliced and placed atop a freshly tossed linguine with delicious sweet and spicy sauce.
- Kuih Bakar Burnt Cheesecake
The cornerstone of traditional Malaysian dessert is Kuih Bakar. At Starbucks, the familiar pandan-flavoured cake with its custard-like texture is reimagined as a cheesecake, maintaining its rich, soft and eggy texture with a cheesy undertone.
The scrumptious delicacies from Starbucks and Datuk Fazley are priced from RM11.90 onwards and are now available in all Starbucks stores in Peninsular Malaysia with rollouts to East Malaysia later in the year.
Have you visited the nearest Starbucks to try out these new items? If you have, what do you think about them?
