In the middle of this year, the nation was shocked by a Twitter thread written by Acacia Diana, a Malaysian photographer.
The thread speaks of her 8-year encounter with a stalker who tried talking to her online and proceeded to stalk her physically numerous times, to the point where he even travelled to the UK to look for her.
Her stalker, Mohamad Safiq Rosli, was promptly arrested after the news made headlines, and on August 10, when the charge was first read to him, he pleaded not guilty.
At that time, the prosecution also requested for the 37-year-old to undergo a psychiatric test; the medical report came back stating that he was fit “for trial and also fit to plead”.
Recently, on December 16, he pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court in Shah Alam to having stalked the female photographer.
It is said that the court was set on December 19 to hear the facts of the case before the sentencing, reports BERNAMA.
He is also the first individual to be charged for the offence under Section 507A (1) of the Penal Code, and if found guilty, he will be imprisoned for up to 3 years or with a fine or both.
We certainly hope that justice will be served.
