Yikes, this punishment is way too extreme!

Recently, it was reported that three managers from a home improvement firm had been detained for punishing their employees in inhumane ways. The poor staff were said to have been forced to drink urine, eat insects such as cockroaches and also get whipped with belts, all because they had failed to meet the sales targets set for them. This company is located in Zunyi, Guizhou province in southern China, as reported by SCMP.

These extreme penalties were exposed when one of the employees of the firm took to social media site, Weibo to post about it last week, claiming that staff of the company had been subjected to those punishments. Following the shocking reveal, a police investigation was launched and the three managers were arrested.

In the viral post titled “Employees who failed to meet their goals forced to drink urine” that was viewed 540,000 times, there was a video showing a few men being whipped by their superior with a belt in front of other employees. The clip also showed a group of people drinking from cups containing yellow liquid (believed to be pee) while holding their noses. Eww!

Though the post was later deleted, a local news portal had managed to salvage the proof, as it published screenshots of the text messages allegedly sent by the managers threatening their staff with several punishments they would be subjected to should they fail to meet the sales targets set. One of the messages read,

“If the sales goal has not been met by the end of this month, the team leader will have to eat three cockroaches for each failed sale.”

Nope, nope, nope!

Meanwhile, the text messages further said that staff could face other punishments too such as:

  • Drinking toilet water or vinegar
  • Selling condoms and sanitary pads on the street
  • Shaving their head

So extreme!

As for now, two of the managers from the firm have been jailed for 10 days while another manager got a five-day jail sentence, according to local police.

Netizens who saw the shocking post questioned why the employees did not just resign from the company, but one employee told local media that the firm owed them two months’ pay. On top of that, the firm had allegedly threatened to reduce their severance salary if they decide to quit.

Seems like a sticky situation to be in, but that doesn’t mean the company should mistreat their employees that way! What do you think of this incident? Watch the video and let us know in the comments section!

PS: It seems like this is not the first case to have happened in China. Check out the article below! :O
