The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has frozen a total of 41 bank accounts worth RM15.86 million, belonging to the charity organisation, Aman Palestin Berhad (Aman Palestin), and several other entities yesterday (22 November).
According to a media statement shared to their Twitter page, the action was taken following allegations of misuse of public donations that have been carried out since 17 October (Tuesday).
“Previously, MACC searched the premises of Aman Palestin and obtained documents related to financial and operational management for the previous 5 years.”
“MACC has also recorded the statements of several important witnesses and the results of the initial investigation identified several issues involving the embezzlement of funds estimated to amount to RM70 million, which were channelled for purposes other than the objectives of the establishment of the company,” they shared.
The investigation was carried out to obtain evidence under the MACC Act 200, the Prevention of Money Laundering, Prevention of Terrorism Financing and Proceeds from Illegal Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001) and the Penal Code (Act 574).
We urge the general public to ensure check credentials and ensure that an entity is legitimate before making an donations for any cause.
