Popular Malaysian media personality and special effects creator, Sofyank, recently collaborated with Visit Singapore (SG), under the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), to create a video promoting the country.
Taking to his X account, Sofyank shared the video, which features him arriving in and exploring Singapore, with the added special effects that one can only expect from the creator.

“I really loved the trip to Singapore this time”
He wrote, “The other day, I managed to head to Singapore for a bit to shoot a travel video, I hope you guys enjoy the video!”
“The best part of travelling is finding places that make you feel calm, connected and at peace. I really loved the trip to Singapore this time, because I got to visit places that many don’t yet know about and I got to try delicious Halal food – all by MRT and walking!”

He also shared a list of places that he visited, along with the MRT stations closest to the locations and how long it would take to get there on foot.
Why not Malaysia?
Some social media users seemed unhappy over the video, as many believed Sofyank should be promoting Malaysia instead of Singapore. Many also called out Malaysia’s Tourism Ministry for not thinking of using local talents, such as Sofyank, to promote our country.
Meanwhile, others pointed out that the video was clearly a collaboration and not a deliberate choice to promote one country over the other.

“You’re not promoting Malaysia? Even though you’re not selected to promote your own country.”

“Malaysians are funny. If you think he needs to promote tourism in Malaysia, you guys pay him lah. Collect RM1 from each person and give it to him. He’s working, he’s not a charity organisation.”

“Malaysian promoting Singapore, meanwhile, next year is Visit Malaysia 2026. Did Tourism Malaysia not call him?”

“Greetings, Ministry Of Tourism, Arts and Culture. Don’t you want to hire Sofyank as a videographer and director for Tourism Malaysia? There’s only a month left for Visit Malaysia 2026. (Yet, they’re) proud of (using) AI.”

“Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, you guys are sleeping too much.”

WORLD OF BUZZ has since reached out to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, as well as Sofyank for comment, but has yet to hear back.
