Borrowing money has always been a taboo subject whether you are the one lending or borrowing. Many people tend to avoid this subject completely as it is a sensitive topic especially towards the Asian culture.
The only time it’s acceptable is when you are an ice-cream
A recent report by Stomp reveals an antagonist by the name of Jeremy who came up with an unforgivable excuse to “borrow” money from his friend, Joanne who so happens to be from Stomp herself.
In a series of text, it was shown that Jeremy has reached out to Joanne in hopes of borrowing some money. Joanne surprised that he had directly asked for money tried to sidewind the topic, but was then sympathetic as Jeremy informs her that it’s for his mom who had recently passed on.

“Be your friend also sway. Never talk. Talk only ask money”
Jeremy explains that he has spent all his money for this mother’s funeral and really need the financial assistance from her – promising to return the loan when his pay is out during month-end. Joanne then responded that she will not be able to transfer the funds as she’s using a joint account, but instead offers to pass him the cash of SGD$300 in person the next day.

However, that wasn’t good enough for Jeremy as he relates that he’s in a dire situation and has literally 0 cash with him. Jeremy then offered to go down to Joanne’s office immediately to collect the cash. Joanne being tied up in meetings was not able to meet him but countered and insisted that she will be able to pass him the cash tomorrow morning.

In the back and forth text, you will see Jeremy relentlessly pestering Joanne for the cash. From agreeing to meet tomorrow, Jeremy pushes Joanne further stating that he needs the money immediately.
Joanne eventually walks out from her meeting to ask her friend to make a transfer of SGD$100 to shut him up. Even so, Jeremy still had the nerve to ask her when he would receive the remaining money.
Can you feel your blood boiling?
Come month-end, Jeremy who promised to return the money kept stalling and eventually Joanne found him to be unresponsive despite multiple times of being in touch. The upset Joanne then loses it and posts the whole experience online using their previous chat as evidence.
She was very disappointed at him and her good deed of trying to help a supposed friend ended up like this! She stressed that it wasn’t about the money but the insolence behaviour of Jeremy that needed to be known by others so people would not fall into his pitiful lies again.
It was also then when Joanne came across with many others who had been conned or attempted so by Jeremy; one of his tricks went as far as including a legitimate looking letter from UOB and some times promise ‘too-good-to-be-true’ investment deals.

Upon discovering Joanne had exposed him on the internet, he baru insaf want to reply her and had the audacity to ask her what would it take for her to remove her online post.

Joanne responded with a middle-finger emoji to end the conversation. It looks like Jeremy sure chose the wrong person for his deceit this time as he is met with a very feisty Joanne. Now, that’s a big win right there. You go girl!
