Travelling to Japan is crazy expensive! Fortunately, we needn’t go far to savour awesome Japanese cuisine, with the newest ramen hot spot in KL, Ramen Mob, as fine proof of that.
Opened in December 2022, Ramen Mob has since garnered a 4.5-star rating and over 800 reviews on Google (at the time of writing). So of course, we HAD to drive to Ramen Mob and see what the craze is all about! #FOMO
Here’s our honest review:
1. Hidden ramen paradise in Taman Desa
Ramen Mob’s entrance is styled after the iconic Japanese elevators, and we were slightly disappointed that there wasn’t an actual lift. But its spacious and modern interior more than made up for that.
Some points to take note of:
- Dinner at Ramen Mob is SUPER easy to get parking.
- Lunch may be a little tricky as a few office buildings are in the area (but not impossible!)
- Upon entering, you are given a QR code to make your order.
- They have indoor and outdoor seating to choose from.
2. Drool-worthy ramen at reasonable prices
Popular ramen places charge approximately RM40 per bowl, so you’d be excited to know that their delicious Ramen starts at RM24.90!
Their signature dishes are the Shiro Ramen and Oyabun Signature Abura Ramen.
The Shiro Ramen’s broth was thicc AF and so rich. This is courtesy of them boiling pork bones for a whopping 16 HOURS to bring out their flavours~ The ajitama egg was also cooked with the yolk still slightly runny, impeccably paired with lean yet tender chashu.
Other soup-based options available at Ramen Mob are:
- Aka (Spicy miso broth)
- Kuro (Garlic broth)
- Spicy Mala!
- Or mix 2 flavours together for complex flavours! Pretty ons, right?
Surprisingly, it was the Oyabun Signature Abura Ramen that stole the show!
The thicker, more chewy ramen was sinfully tossed in pork lard oil, giving it a distinctive umami mouth explosion like no other. Accompanying it were pieces of chashu grilled with smokey sweet yakiniku sauce (like Japanese BBQ), bonito flakes, and an onsen egg you can toss with, like Japanese chilli pan mee.
The biggest takeaway for us is that the prices are actually SUPER reasonable for the high-quality ramen you get, with the soup ramen and Oyabun priced at RM24.90 and RM27.90, respectively. Thus, it’s absolutely worth the foodie trip here!
If you don’t like noodles, try the Yakibuta don. It’s pork belly that melts in your mouth paired with a poached egg and rice.
3. Equally yummy side dishes
