Before the pandemic started, there were many people who were wary of purchasing things online as they were concerned about their private data being shared such as their phone numbers.
In order to assure the consumers, the e-commerce platform Shopee has taken extra measures to protect their customers’ privacy.
In their Air Waybill update on 18 October, Shopee has announced that starting from 21 October, the buyer’s phone number will be removed on the following air waybills (AWB):
- J & T Express, &
- Ninja Van.
On the same page, it is said that the buyers’ phone number has been omitted on the airway bills of other courier services. Be it as it may, there are still two courier services that will include your phone number in their AWB and that is Poslaju and City-Link Express.
Shopee has elaborated that this move to remove the buyers’ phone number is to “protect our users’ data”. Now, you might be thinking, how will the courier person call you then?
The e-commerce platform has clarified that courier personnel can still view the phone number through the system and through that, they will be able to contact you if needed.
This sounds wonderful! Now we will only need to blackout our address with a marker.
