In Kuala Krai, Kelantan, a senior citizen was attacked and seriously injured by a wild elephant while rubber tapping near Kampung Laloh.
Zainab Mat Husin was attacked and stepped on by the wild elephant and is currently undergoing intensive care at Hospital Sultan Ismail Petra.
Not long after the incident, a wildlife officer was also injured while carrying out investigations on the incident.
It is not entirely uncommon for wild elephants to venture into villages or agricultural areas in search of food, leading to these dangerous encounters.

In a statement relating to the incident, Kelantan’s Department of Wildlife and National Parks of Peninsular Malaysia Mohamad Hafid Rohani said that a capture and control operation is currently underway to ensure the safety of residents in the area.
