Phew, crisis averted! Thanks to the diligent work of LUAS and Air Selangor, the pollution was contained almost immediately.
In lieu of recent events, we could deduct that there are 3 certain things in the world; life, death and water disruption in Klang Valley. Of course, we’re joking here (or are we?) but residents of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur have been a bit paranoid in regards to supply of clean water this year with disruptions becoming all too common.
In fact, another water disruption would have happened yesterday because Sungai Kundang near Rawang on November 13 suffered odour pollution at the scale of four TON (Threshold Odour Number).
As reported by national news agency Bernama, the pollution was detected by Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and Air Selangor at midnight on Friday. The source of the pollution was believed to be sourced from the overflow of a pond near Indah Water Consortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd Sewage Treatment Plant in Taman Velox, Rawang.
LUAS found that the incident was related to leakage caused by heavy rain in the area. This prompted Air Selangor to come to the rescue of Klang Valley residents by taking immediate action and contain the pollution. 14 bags of ‘activated carbon’ were placed in the outlet and the drain area of the pond near the treatment plant.
LUAS and IWK subsequently implemented cleaning and control work in the area as all of us continue to enjoy clean water supply uninterrupted. Kudos to all parties involved in the containment of the pollution!
