A student was left humiliated after a teacher at her school in Lahad Datu, Sabah, had allegedly cut her headscarf, stating it was not long enough for the teacher’s standards. This incident is believed to have taken place during the first week of the 2026 school year.
The Info Lahad Datu Facebook page shared images of the student’s headscarf, in which cuts could be visible, while explaining how the teacher’s actions affected the student.

They wrote, “This child’s headscarf was cut because it wasn’t long enough. The child went home crying, pity her. The headscarf was newly purchased. And it was in the largest size. You can see for yourself. If the teacher believes the headscarf shouldn’t be worn, the headscarf could have been donated to others. Why cut them?”
“Maybe to others, this is a small issue. But, for the child, it was very painful and humiliating. If the intention is to educate, please remember that what is being cut is not an empty cloth but the child’s feelings.”
“A proper reprimand reaches the heart more than a painful punishment.”
Info Lahad Datu also called for the teacher to issue a public apology, as well as for the student’s parents to file a police report.
The teacher has been transferred

In an update reported by Sinar Harian, the teacher who allegedly cut the student’s headscarf has been transferred to a different school. The Sabah State Education Director, Datuk Raisin Saidin, shared that this action was taken through the Lahad Datu District Education Office (PPD).
“The teacher has apologised to the student’s parents, and the Lahad Datu PPD has taken action to transfer the teacher to another school while the student remains at the school. The teacher has also replaced the student’s headscarf that was cut,” he said.
He went on to urge teachers to always be prudent in their actions and consider various factors, including the ability of parents to provide for their kids’ schooling needs.
“At the same time, I also advise students to always comply with the rules set by the school. All the rules implemented are based on the guidelines of the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM), which are intended to benefit the students. I also hope that this does not happen in other schools,” he added.
