During the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO), businesses and schools are closed to support the containment of the spread of Covid-19. While schools are closed, schoolchildren and students are advised to study at home.

Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) is going to roll out a new programme called TV Pendidikan (Educational TV) starting this coming Monday (6 April) to allow more students to access educational content. According to Bernama, this particular programme will be aired on TV Okey, one of the channels under RTM.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Education earlier today (4 April), to kick-start the programme, TV Pendidikan is going to air twice a day, once from 9am to 10am, and another segment from 1pm to 2pm, during the Movement Control Order period.

“The TV Pendidikan Programme is introduced to enable pupils to gain access to learning materials through alternative platforms, especially during the MCO.”

Apparently, the TV Pendidikan programme introduced in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia is an addition to the Eduweb TV that is currently implemented by the Ministry of Education via web streaming. However, there are students who do not have access to the internet, therefore, they will still be able to catch up with learning with the new programme on television.

“Under this collaboration, MoE will provide educational programmes to be broadcast by RTM, therefore, pupils who are without Internet access will still be able to follow the teaching and learning process at home through television.”

The statement by the Ministry of Education said that the programme schedule can be accessed on the Ministry’s official website at www.moe.gov.my or its social media platforms on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

For the people who are subscribed to Astro, viewers or students can watch the programme on Channel 146 on Astro or Astro NJOI. This programme is also available on 101 MyFreeView TV. As for anyone with internet access, the programme can be accessed via RTM’s website at www.myklik.rtm.gov.my.

With learning materials made accessible for people even without the internet, the Ministry of Education hopes that students, teachers and parents will be able to utilise the government’s initiative.

“The ministry hopes pupils, teachers and parents will fully utilise this initiative to ensure that the learning process of the students can continue effectively during this challenging situation.”

It is indeed a challenging time when schools are closed and many parents have to work from home, hopefully, this programme will be able to support more students as well as the parents who are busy taking care of their work and household matters.
