American girl group, The Pussycat Dolls, are reminiscing about how they ‘pushed buttons’ and were subsequently banned from Malaysia following a 2006 performance. The controversy arose after the group wore outfits that exposed their shoulders and midriffs, violating local decency regulations.
VT took to its TikTok page to share an interview with members Nicole Scherzinger, Kimberly Wyatt, and Ashley Roberts. In the clip, the trio recalled the moment they discovered they were banned and how they eventually returned to Malaysia clad in turtlenecks.

Banned and back in turtlenecks
“Remember when we were banned from Malaysia?” Ashley asked. The interviewer, surprised, responded: “You were banned from Malaysia?”
“Yeah, but that was because of our outfits, right?” Ashley replied. Kimberly added: “But they did bring us back to Malaysia after we were banned, for the MTV Asia Awards.”

“We wore turtlenecks,” Ashley retorted, while Nicole added, “We were sweating our asses off. It was so hot.”
Why were the group banned from Malaysia?
Kimberly explained that, prior to their return, they had performed in Malaysia wearing outfits that revealed both their shoulders and belly buttons simultaneously. This wardrobe choice left the Malaysian authorities unhappy.

The day after the performance, while waiting at the airport to depart, the group received the news of their ban.
“On the front cover of all the newspapers, it said ‘Pussycat Dolls banned from Malaysia.’ We were sitting at the airport like, ‘Oh my God!'” Kimberly explained.
“Rockstar!” Ashley exclaimed, while Nicole added, “We were really proud.”
