Times have changed, and times are tough, especially for the low-income groups who often have to rack their brains and think of survival tips to make it through financially.
With the price of goods continuously increasing, how much can we save up? In the Facebook group Deco Dapur Cara Jimat, a Facebook page Jangan Serius Sangat shared a picture of a man with an “overreaction” after he purchased a pack of rice and 4 rolls of kitchen towels. His reaction is caused by the price of the items that he purchased from a local supermarket – RM53.30!
That amount, without any meat, seafood, or even seasonings. The good ol’ times when RM50 could get you a full trolley of materials but thanks to inflation, those were the good days. The man jokingly overreacted by laying on the ground with his hand on his chest, an indication of a heart attack due to the shock he got from the shopping.
At the time of writing (September 23), the post has gained more than 47,000 likes and more than 5,800 shares, with many Malaysians find it hilarious and sadly, relatable at the same time.
Some netizens also threw shades at the recently-circulated old video where a minister bought groceries for RM136.
“I miss Najib Razak’s good times.”
“Our brother didn’t know how to shop for groceries. Look at that ‘aunty’, she got a full trolley of groceries with only RM136. She spent wisely.”
“No need to lay on the ground. The minister has made a video on how you can spend for groceries with less than RM200.”
“Even if you put a picture of you dying, the supporters will still put the blame on you.”
“Soon, we’ll have a minister who tells you there is no need for the kitchen towel, and just use the shower towel.”
Fellow Malaysians, can you relate to the man’s overreaction? How much do you spend on each round of grocery shopping?
