“RM2k per street lamp” – Kind M’sian Man Spends Own Money to Light Up Dark Road in His Residential Area

Concerned about a road in his residential area that is too dark during nighttime, a Malaysian man decided to take matters into his own hands to “let there be light”.

Taking to Facebook, the man, known as Sunny Coco shared several photos of work being done to install several street lights at the road in an undisclosed location.

In the photos, a backhoe can be seen being used by a worker to install the street lamps, whereby it was used to climb up to electricity poles on the street.

As for the location itself, it is a small asphalt road with nothing but grass and trees on each side, hence without a street light, the road is undoubtedly quite scary to walk at during nighttime.

In the caption, Sunny wrote,

“This road is too dark at night. So, I decided to pay for the whole street lights.”

“Hope to help the pedestrians by lighting up the road.”


As reported by Sin Chew, Sunny revealed that each street lamp cost him RM2,000 to install.

Furthermore, he also shared a couple of photos at nighttime with the street lights installed, showing the road being illuminated throughout.

Malaysians praise Sunny’s selfless act

In the comments section, Malaysians unanimously praised the man’s kind actions.

One commenter prayed that Sunny would receive blessings for his selfless action, while another praised him as a good person for ensuring the safety of others.

Besides that, one netizen thanked Sunny for his wholesome action and hoped that he could continue giving back to the community.
