Raub MP, Chow Yu Hui, as well as durian plantation operator and Chairman of Save Musang King Alliance (SAMKA), Wilson Chang, were arrested by the police yesterday (Monday – April 13), for obstructing public servants from carrying out their duties during ‘Op Sekat’ last week.

A post uploaded to Chow’s official BM/English Facebook page confirmed this, while a post on his official Mandarin Facebook page later clarified that Chow and Chang were both released on police bail this morning (Tuesday – April 14), after spending the night at the Raub IPD.

“We were arrested for defending the rights of Raub’s durian farmers. We earnestly hope and call on the Pahang state government to stop the logging operation immediately. In fact, the farmers have always been willing to cooperate with the state government,”

“They have been trying to apply for land titles and planting permits since 50 or 60 years ago. Even if there are consortiums involved now, as long as the farmers are treated fairly, everyone is willing to sit down and discuss cooperations,” the post read.

They ultimately believe that the government should not “ignore the farmers’ efforts and rights” or “any cooperation will be meaningless”.

“Therefore, all parties should take the farmers’ rights as the premise, return to the negotiating table and reach a win-win solution,” they added.
