2023 is the year of rabbit for the Chinese community around the world, and as CNY is less than two weeks away, malls around the world have put up decorations that feature the cute pet to embrace the festive season.
A CNY decoration in Indonesia, however, did not portray the rabbits as cute pets. We’ll let you be the judge by looking at the images below.
The white rabbit is seen in huge, red glowing eyes and it’s as if the rabbit is staring right into your soul! A smaller rabbit in brown among them tends to “soften the blow” as many netizens tend to agree that it is the most normal-looking one of all.
Another rabbit in white with red eyes is also seen standing with a huge gold in its hand.
Many Facebook pages have shared eerie-looking images of the rabbits and claimed that the decorations are set up at Singkawang, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia.
The Facebook page, Penang My Home is among the pages that shared the images of the decorations, and Malaysians made it clear that they’re not amused. Rabbits are often regarded as cute animals but many agreed that the images above did not picture the pet in any way where they would be deemed “adorable”.
“Are the rabbits infected with the zombie virus?”
“Ears are too long”
“That’s a nightmare fuel.”
“The client pissed the designer off, I guess.”
“They’re nowhere near cute.”
“The designer watched too many vampire films.”
“This is what happened when the designer is paid only half of the expected amount.”
Another netizen has since questioned if the decorations are meant for CNY or Halloween.
A Facebook page made a reference to the Korean zombie film and dubbed the rabbits “Rabbit to Busan”.

These rabbits do seem like they came straight out of horror flicks. Do you think the designers did these cute creatures justice, or do you think these are nightmare fuels?
