The United States (US) President, Donald Trump, has confirmed that he will attend the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur this October.
According to a report by Berita Harian, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed this matter during a phone call with the US President this morning (Thursday, July 31).

“I would like to inform you that at 6:50am, I had the opportunity to speak by phone with President Trump. He expressed his appreciation for Malaysia’s effective and positive role in resolving the Thailand-Cambodia conflict,” he said.
The last time a US President attended the summit in Kuala Lumpur was in November 2015, with the presence of former President Barack Obama.
Trump will review the tariff rate on Malaysia
Their conversation eventually touched on trade issues, including the tariffs and the ongoing negotiations between the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and the United States Trade Representative and the US Secretary of Commerce.
“After receiving clarification from me, he decided to review the tariff rate to be imposed on Malaysia no later than tomorrow,” he added.
