Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that the Ministry of Economy will NOT be dissolved, and will continue to play an important role in planning national development and implementing current economic policies.

According to a report by Sinar Harian, he added that the claims that the Ministry will be abolished are baseless.

Anwar Ibrahim

“The Ministry of Economy was established during the previous Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration after the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), which previously operated under the Prime Minister’s Department, was strengthened in its role as a full Ministry,”

“There is no issue that this Ministry lacks talent because the ones who determine the direction are the Ministry of Economy and I. I think there is no need to reshuffle at this time,” he said.

The Minister of Economy’s last day on duty is tomorrow

This comes after Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli had resigned as the Minister of Economy, with his resignation coming into effect tomorrow (June 17).

The Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation for Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli.

“I wish the best to brother Rafizi, who has served amazingly as the Minister of Economy. Any replacements or decisions (on this matter) will be made at the appropriate time,” he added.
