Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today announced that the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are expected to reach herd immunity earlier than expected. As shared by national news agency Bernama, the Prime Minister said that both Federal Territories are projected herd immunity by August of this year.

Furthermore, Muhyiddin also said that the government is currently in the midst of drafting a National Recovery Plan (Exit Plan) to prepare our country in emerging from the Covid-19 pandemic at a reasonable level. As reported by Bernama in a separate post, the Prime Minister stressed that the plan would be based on data and science.

He also stressed that all the preparations that had been done, including in terms of Covid-19 management, economy, vaccination programme and so on would be presented to the National Security Council (MKN) within next week. Muhyiddin, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pagoh asserted,

“Some of the key ministers involved have already sat down with me to present the draft. Basically good, but not yet refined. It is time we want to set an exit strategy or National Recovery Plan for us to get out of this problem, but this is a big challenge depending on the cooperation and support of all parties.”

Malaysia has seen a significant increase in vaccination rate over the past 2 weeks or so. Back in June 8, we witnessed the highest daily vaccination rate with 15,309 doses, as reported by The Edge Markets. The Minister in charge of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NCIP) has since set the target for 200,000 doses per day soon.

What do you guys think of the statement by the Prime Minister? Do you think we’d be able to achieve herd immunity in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya by August? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
