Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI) has become the first Malaysian to register for the National Digital Identity (Digital ID).
This is a form of digital identification and self-verification for individuals that can be used by the public and private sectors when making transactions online. Without replacing the MyKad (IC) system, Digital ID is said to be a trusted and secure platform that facilitates online identity verification to avoid identity fraud in online transactions.
DSAI took to his Facebook page to encourage the general public to follow suit and accept that the country is moving forward and progressing, after being the first to register for the facility, which begins operation today (1 December).
He wrote, “In fact, I myself registered and tried it before the start of the Cabinet meeting together with the Council of Ministers, who also registered including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.”
“When met by the media, I affirmed, and gave assurances, that no chip will be inserted into the body, nor will personal and banking records be leaked, as is said to be the concern of some parties after the implementation of the National Digital ID. This is unfounded, while the people should accept the fact that the country should progress along with current developments including the use of technology.”
