Women’s coaches on LRT, MRT, and KTM trains have been around for years. Unfortunately, some male passengers are still “invading” the coaches designated only for the ladies.
The Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke has a message to all men who happily board women’s coaches – please be respectful.
In a press conference this noon (August 14), Anthony told the media that he is well aware of the ongoing situations and complaints regarding male passengers in women’s coaches. Currently, there are no rules or penalties on how to handle male passengers who trespass, but that does not mean things will stay the same.
“The ministry will discuss the penalties for the male passengers who board the women’s coaches. As of now, we have no penalties for the men who violate the rules.”
As of now, the manpower of the auxiliary police at all stations will come in handy to ask the male passengers to leave the women’s coaches. In the meantime, Anthony reminded the men to be respectful of the rules.
“To all men, please respect lah. With the women’s coaches available, please respect them. But of course, we know there are some people who will disobey the rules. So, the auxiliary police will be deployed to handle the situations.”
With how often the issue of male passengers “finding shelter” in the women’s coaches happens, we certainly hope the ministry will come up with penalties as soon as possible!
