“People are dying! Someone’s father, someone’s mother, someone’s child! Use your powers rightfully!”
As of 2 August 2021, walk-in vaccinations have been made available for a specific group of people who are yet to receive their first dose. Ever since then, massive crowds have been reported in numerous vaccination centres (PPV) in Klang Valley, bringing into question if SOPs are violated.
Today (11 August), once again, another horde of people getting their vaccinations were spotted at Grand Season’s Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. A video that was originally shared Instagram user, Umairah Mohd Taib quickly went viral online, even garnering the attention of Muar MP, Syed Saddiq and former Prime Minister, Najib Razak.
In the video, it could be clearly seen that both locals and foreigners were flooding the vaccination center without maintaining proper physical distancing among themselves.
In her post, Umairah stated that she was on the way to Kampung Baru with her husband when they unexpectedly spotted huge crowds lining up outside the vaccination centre without adhering to the SOPs.
What was even more disappointing is that there were authorities nearby, but they were not doing much to control and remind the crowd.
Frustrated, Umairah and her husband took the liberty to control the crowds by reminding them to line up properly and socially distance themselves.
Later in the video, Umairah’s husband is seen expressing his anger towards the authorities who are not using their power to a full capacity to handle such a situation. Unable to control his frustrations, the man sheds tears while emphasizing how many people are literally dying.
“People are dying! Someone’s father, someone’s mother, someone’s child! Everyone is dying! Use your powers rightfully!”
40 minutes later, the couple passed by the same place again, only to realize that not much has changed in terms of the crowd, although a number of policemen and police patrol cars were seen around the area.
