The recent Kemaman parliamentary by-election was won by PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar in a landslide victory over his Barisan Nasional rival Raja Affandi Raja Noor with a 37,220-vote majority.

In his short speech to PAS supporters gathered at Arena Square in Kemaman, the Terengganu menteri besar thanked them and the party’s election machinery for helping ensure the victory.

Meanwhile, he said that the win in Kemaman was a stepping stone for the coalition to return to Putrajaya as the federal government.

“What we have today in Kemaman, with this whopping majority, is thanks to your hard work. And it opens the door for us to head to Putrajaya.”

Additionally, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said that the larger majority was “a clear signal” that the people rejected the Pakatan Harapan-led unity government.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said in a statement “Based on the substantial decline observed in Kemaman, the PH-BN coalition not only failed to gain new support but also continued to lose the support it once enjoyed.”

“This not only reaffirms the acceptance of Samsuri’s position as the Terengganu menteri besar but also confirms the growing support for PN in the series of by-elections held after the 15th general election.”

“It is evident that the federal government continues to fail to gain the support and trust of the people even after a year in power,” Takiyuddin said while adding that the win proved that voters reject the “confusion” in the federal government’s administration of the country.
