PAS Assistant Secretary-General and Bachok MP, Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman, recently shared his belief that the Federal Constitution should be amended to include a condition that the Malaysian Prime Minister should always be someone of the Islamic faith.
This comes after a proposal to amend the Federal Constitution to limit the term for Prime Ministers to 2 terms (10 years).
Taking to his X page, Syahir Sulaiman insisted that it is important to discuss the inclusion of the condition that the position of Prime Minister must be filled by a Muslim person.

He wrote, “The Constitution: limit the term of the PM to only 2 terms, this can be discussed. Set a condition that the PM must be Muslim, we can also discuss this. Out of fairness, out of necessity. Islam is the official religion of the Federation.”
According to a report by Harakah Daily, he added that such a provision needs to exist so that the Prime Minister understands and governs according to Islamic teachings.
“As for the proposal to limit the term of the position, it should be brought to a wider discussion. Not only discuss the terms but it is also time to set the qualification requirements for a Prime Minister,”
“A Muslim must be appointed. This is due to the appropriateness and the need to defend Islam as the official religion of the Federation, as stipulated in the provisions of the Constitution,” he explained.
