When it comes to intimidation, loan sharks are known for splashing red paint at a debtor’s house as a “reminder.”
Recently, however, debt collectors in Pahang went viral after targeting the wrong address, splashing red paint on the home of a local philanthropist instead.

The homeowner is a prominent figure with a Dato’ title in the Bera district
Sin Chew reported that the homeowner, who is the current president of the district’s Hokkien Association, was overseas on a business trip when the incident occurred.
The loan sharks not only splashed red paint on the house but also left debt notices at the gate. Worse, the vehicles parked inside the property were stained with paint despite the gate being locked.
The incident was discovered by the family’s domestic helper
According to the victim’s mother, Madam Lin, the shocking discovery was made by their domestic helper at around 11 AM on Thursday (29 January). Upon checking the notice, they realised the written address actually belonged to a neighbour, and the note included a Singapore-registered contact number.
The family also found plastic bags containing remnants of red paint, believed to have been left behind by the perpetrators. Madam Lin expressed her deep dissatisfaction with the loan sharks’ reckless methods, noting the immense trouble they caused.

“It is highly unacceptable because their debt collection method damaged others’ properties.”
According to Lin, shortly after the discovery, the neighbour in question received a call from the debt collectors. During the call, they admitted they had targeted the wrong house, proving the Dato’ and his family had no involvement with the debt.
A police report has been lodged, though the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
