Despite her not being able to retain her position as the Member of Parliament of Permatang Pauh following her lost in the 15th General Election, Nurul Izzah Anwar continues to care for her former constituency and step up to help the people whenever there is a need.
In a similar instance, Nurul Izzah recently shared a post on Facebook on how she had bought and donated new motorbikes to a number of residents who had lost their motorbikes in a fire.
In the post she wrote, “Lost Motorbikes, Disappearing Source of Livelihood. A few days ago, I received a message from a Seberang Jaya resident asking for help. They said, 15 residents of Flat Tuna Seberang Jaya were left helpless when their motorbikes were burnt in a fire.”
“They said that it is the only mode of transportation available for them to go to work, send their children to school, take sick family members to the hospital, and so on.”
She said that the affected residents are all from low-income families, therefore it is difficult for them as they cannot afford to buy new motorbikes.
“Yes, I am no longer a Member of Parliament for Permatang Pauh, but many residents come to ask for help from me. They also met with local representatives, but they came to me with this request because they are still waiting for a solution.”
“I teamed up with YB Lee Khai Loon and tried to find a way to solve this issue of the people in Seberang Jaya. Thankfully, we were able to collect RM30,000 to help ease their burden,” she explained.
Izzah then stated that they had gone to the motorcycle shop and bought the Modenas Kriss MR3.
“Originally, the price of this motor was RM4,000 per piece, but it was finally bought at a price of RM3,500 after a negotiation process! I’m touched. The owner of the store is very kind and caring – he gave a discount, when he found out about the joint venture to help low-income families in Seberang Jaya,” she added.
She then shared that thanks to the support of the team and volunteers, the process of license, road tax, insurance, and full tank of fuel was also completed.
“Hopefully this small token can help them earn an income and continue their lives. I realise, I am no longer the MP for Permatang Pauh, but Permatang Pauh will always be in my heart forever.”
Where is the MP & ADUN?
The post by Nurul Izzah has since gone viral and drew plenty of praise from netizens. Meanwhile, a few Malaysians took to the comments to question why it was her who had to take action rather than the MP or ADUN of the area.
It even managed to capture the attention of Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin who criticised the new MP and ADUN for not doing anything.
“Why on earth is the new MP and ADUN of the area not doing any work? How is this possible,” wrote Sim.
Meanwhile, Machang Bubuk assemblyman Lee Khai Loon took shots at Seberang Jaya ADUN by claiming that he’s never free because he’s always in KL playing golf whilst the prayers offered by the Permatang Pauh MP is not helpful as direct action is needed.
Kudos to both Nurul Izzah and Lee Khai Loon for stepping up and helping the affected residents so promptly!
