A nurse who worked in the Singapore General Hospital came back from her vacation in Australia on 21 March 2020. As it was the beginning of the outbreak across multiple countries, she was asked to stay home and quarantine for 14 days.
However, during her quarantine period, she went out a minimum of seven times, reported CNA. The first time she went out (23 March) was for one hour and 30 minutes to buy bubble tea. From there, she went to a university to submit some documents for further studies and then she went home.
On 2 April, the nurse went to a friend’s house where she spent more than five hours to help out with wedding preparations. She returned to the same house the next day as well. It is said that when she was at her friend’s house, she was not wearing a mask and none of them knew that she was supposed to be in quarantine. The nurse’s friend was also pregnant at that time.
Fast forward to 12 April, the nurse felt feverish and had a sore throat. She went to a hospital and tested positive for Covid-19, she was admitted the next day. She was finally discharged on 17 May after being transferred to a community care facility.
The Deputy Public Prosecutor Joshua Lim said that there is no evidence that the nurse had spread Covid-19 to anyone.
She is not employed by the Singapore General Hospital any longer and was sentenced to seven weeks in jail on 22 January 2021.
