A post by a road user in Malaysia drew the attention of netizens recently, noting how the barriers at a toll plaza have varying heights, despite all being labelled 2.1 metres.
The post was shared to a local car discussion group on Facebook by user Edmund Lai. Many Malaysians were amused by the observation, adding that they had noticed similar discrepancies at other toll plazas across the country.

A man perplexed by barriers of varying heights being labelled as 2.1 metres at a toll plaza
Attached to the post are two photos of a toll plaza at an unspecified location. In the first photo, a toll lane is seen with two barriers, with the higher one being labelled as 2.1 metres tall.
Meanwhile, in the second photo, two toll lanes are shown, with the barrier on the right lane being higher than the one on the left. However, they are both labelled 2.1 metres.
“Is it very expensive to buy a measuring tape? Or when you use different vendors, does this happen?” the caption stated.

Malaysians share their two cents on the matter
In the comments section, many Malaysians shared their experiences going through these toll lanes and even offered their theories on why the ‘2.1 metres’ barrier height is inconsistent.
One commenter joked that the barrier height was different despite both being 2.1 metres tall because one is measured from sea level, while the other was measured from road level.

Meanwhile, another netizen claimed that this is what happens when the toll plaza uses different vendors for the barriers.
Besides that, one Malaysian said that previously, only dangling chain barriers were used, but since some lorry drivers didn’t care about hitting the chain, toll plazas had to use barriers such as the ones seen in the photos.

Another netizen echoed the same sentiment, saying that Malaysians can thank lorry drivers who use the sedan lane to get cheaper rates for the barriers.
