Getting married isn’t cheap and for most Asians, the cost of getting married includes betrothal gifts that is usually given before the actual marriage ceremony. This is an age-old custom that involves gifts like candy, liquor, fruits, meat, jewellery, or even cars and property that must be “paid” by the groom’s family to the bride’s family. Not cheap you know!
That’s not all, the groom’s family will also have to cough up a certain amount of money to pay the bride’s dowry, which is something like the “price” for the bride. However, this lucky guy from Shanxi, China became the envy of many guys after it was discovered that he married the love of his life for “free”. Love is priceless, though!
According to Nextshark, He Pingwei married his beautiful Ukrainian bride, Inesa in October 2017 but they had met each other in January 2016. The couple met each other when Inesa was working as a translator in Beijing and she fell for He’s kindhearted personality.
They had a sweet and happy courtship where He was also attracted by Inesa’s cheerfulness. They finally tied the knot but what has caused such an uproar online recently was the fact that He did not have to buy any betrothal gifts for Inesa and her family.
Their wedding ceremony was held on March 8 at He’s hometown in Yangcheng, about five months after they got their marriage certificate and became the talk of the town. Owing to the cultural differences, Inesa and her family did not ask for a single penny, which allowed He to save a lot of money.
Although the bride prices differ in various areas, it was reported that the amount can go up to 200,000 yuan (RM123,520) and also include an apartment before the groom can marry the bride. It was a very happy and relaxed ceremony that amazed netizens as Chinese weddings tend to be rather grand and hectic affairs. The couple only took one week to prepare for their wedding. That’s amazing!
The newlyweds will be living in Yangcheng for the time being and as they plan to start their own business there. Even though Inesa’s family and close friends attended their wedding in China, she says that they plan to have another Ukrainian style wedding when they visit Ukraine in two years’ time.
We wish the happy couple a sweet and lasting marriage!
