Japan is definitely one of the most cultured countries in the world and one thing they may very well be best known for worldwide is anime! From bachelors marrying their favourite anime characters to ladies trying to become them, there’s certainly no shortage of love for anime wherever you are.
But one dark side about dressing up as anime characters, or cosplay for short, is the excessive amount of effort needed to change the way you look into something that was originally, well, unrealistic.
One particular Japanese cosplayer though, is taking the Twitter-sphere by storm for posting her natural face alongside her fully done-up look to show how much she transforms to step into the role of her favourite characters, and the internet is loving it. Itawasa (@itws_a) posted the comparison in late May, and the first picture showcases her face as she drinks coffee after her morning skin care routine, while the second shows her in full cosplay.

The difference has not only baffled netizens but also encouraged them to post their own transformations in a show of support with the hashtag #レイヤーのオンとオフ (#cosplayer on/off).
Others took to the comments section to praise Itawasa for not only her bravery, but also for her very well maintained skin. Some even added that because of her daring post, they feel more encouraged to try cosplaying, as they had originally thought they didn’t have the looks for it.
One particular comment reads, “I’ve always been interested in cosplay, now I can try it out for myself too? I now have the courage to take that step forward. I am thankful.”
Itawasa’s posting has since garnered 24,800 retweets.
