Growing up in Malaysia is undeniably one of the most awesome experiences ever, kan? With its cultural diversity and heartwarming communities, our childhoods were filled with unique and unforgettable moments.

But as time marches on, so do our favourite moments and pastimes! Jom take a nostalgic trip down memory lane to reminisce about five things from our childhood that have evolved over the years.

1. Making calls on a payphone

“I remember when we had to use pondok telephone and feed in coins just to make a call. Now, it’s as easy as grabbing a prepaid top-up card from 7-Eleven!” — Pooja, 31

In the past, making a phone call often meant searching for a payphone and carrying coins. Today, the convenience of prepaid top-up cards from convenience stores like 7-Eleven makes communication quicker and hassle-free!

2. Collecting points through stamps

“I used to carry around a stack of stamp cards to earn rewards from my favourite brands. Mobile apps now make it so much simpler to collect points and grab rewards! — Kelly, 26

We used to gather stamps on paper cards for loyalty rewards, carrying around bulky cards in our wallets. Nowadays, brands like 7-Eleven has modernised the points-collecting process with the My7E app, letting us collect points and redeem rewards with just a few taps on our phones!

3. Grabbing bread from 7-Eleven as our on-the-go meal

“We used to only grab bread from 7-Eleven when we needed a quick and easy way to fill our tummy. But with 7CAFé now, we can enjoy everything from a hot cup of coffee to nasi lemak and even ice cream—anytime from breakfast to supper!” — Kai Wen, 25

Back in the day, 7-Eleven was primarily known for its basic essentials like bread. With the launch of 7CAFé, it has transformed into a go-to spot for a wide range of foods and drinks, from breakfast staples to desserts!

4. Buying ice cubes for cold drinks

“Remember we used to buy ice cubes just to chill our drinks? To beat the Malaysian heat now, we can just grab a Slurpee for an ice-cold treat!” — Amirul, 34

Back then, we’d stock up on ice cubes to keep our drinks cold during the heat. Thanks to refreshing, ice-blended drinks like 7-Eleven’s Slurpees, we now have many ice-cold treats that come in various flavours!

5. Getting printed ads for promotions

“I miss the thrill of getting coupons or flyers and discovering my favourite brand is on sale. Now, we just check Facebook and Instagram for the latest deals!” — Nadiah, 26

It’s been ages since we last saw a printed ad. Nowadays, brands like 7-Eleven have embraced digitalisation by launching their handy My7E app, keeping us updated on the latest promotions so we never miss out!
