In any event of competitive sports, there’s no doubt that each participant will aim high and go for the gold. But often times, when someone is in need, coming to their rescue may be more valuable than a first place finish.

Sports enthusiast and marathon runner Muhammad Aiman is no stranger to participating in long and arduous races across the country. However, a moment he captured between a few runners during the 2023 Kuala Lumpur Marathon (KLSCM 2023) has been making waves on his TikTok account @aimandope.

While just 30 seconds long, the clip displayed two men who were walking slowly during the last stretch of the 42km marathon. Experiencing a great amount of pain, one of the men can be seen walking slowly amidst the other competitors, holding his friend’s hand through the process. Taking each step carefully, the man attempts to balance himself without putting pressure on his left foot, which seems to be in pain.

At one point, another runner approaches the duo, and speaks to them before shaking a can he is holding. Spraying the canned item on the participant’s leg, it’s later revealed that the product is intended to soothe leg cramps. After having a brief conversation with the duo, they continue their journey together.

Taking time out of competing in the race, both men received major praise by Malaysians for stopping to help their injured competitor.

“This is proof that sports unites us as Malaysians!” wrote one user.

We tip our hats to these two men, who prove that in any sport, doing the right thing is more rewarding than coming in first place.
