Yesterday, 9 August, Malaysian public figure, Arwind Kumar (also known as ‘Mak Cik Rosmah‘ to many Malaysians) took to his Facebook to share an ongoing initiative aimed to raise funds for the struggling Orang Asli community that is residing at Hulu Kemensah.

The 25-year-old Malaysian wrote in his post sharing that they were aiming to raise RM10,000, which will be used to buy daily necessities, and would appreciate other donations (other than monetary donations) such as clothes and toys too.

He wrote in his post:

“Dear FAM, I am trying to raise RM10,000 to help the Orang Asli located at Hulu Kemensah. Our brothers and sisters are struggling to make ends meet. From their shelter to their food and clothes, we are looking to help in all ways possible. We are looking to prepare basic needs, to be sent over to them.”

He added saying, “Clothes + Toys (if you have GOOD used clothes or toys to be given away, please let me know). Do NOT pass torn, dirty, dusty, stained or smelly clothes. Simple rule: If you would NOT accept it as a third person, then do NOT give it to a third person. Other than that, it’s really the food and basic necessities that we are looking to provide.”

#FromAMother Project – Aiding families in need

WORLD OF BUZZ had the opportunity to speak to Arwind Kumar and he shared more details of this initiative. He told WORLD OF BUZZ that the project was first initiated by his own beloved mother.

“The Orang Asli project is initiated by my Mother who runs the #FromAMother project, aiding families in need of basic necessities. We have extended our aid to single mothers, over 100 taxi drivers from a taxi company, refugees, foreigners, and we’re now looking to reach out to parts that are deeper and further away, which hardly get the attention,” Arwind told WORLD OF BUZZ.

When asked about the purpose of the initiative, Arwind explained that it is part of being human that pushes them to be kind and loving to every other human being, regardless of race, religion, gender and other differences.

“I think just being human is what enables us to feel another human in need of attention and affection. And maybe that is what we have been missing out on. The point of being ‘human’. It is not just to be nice. But to act when necessary.”

“Pandemics like this are what give us the opportunities to be HUMAN. It is sad but a blessing at the same time because one pandemic has taught us the importance of being kind and loving to everyone, regardless of the differences,” he told WORLD OF BUZZ.

“An opportunity to serve and to love”

Arwind took the opportunity to remind us all to question whether our fellow brothers and sister are struggling, and if so how?

“I think there honestly is no possible way of comparing those in need, especially at this point. Everyone is suffering. No one is excluded. The only question is how? Physically? Mentally? Emotionally? Financially?” he asked.

“The Orang Asli have always been one of the most inspiring groups of people because of how they look after one another. Although they don’t really show much of what’s going on, they have always tried to accommodate to what they have, as a means of surviving.”

He added saying, “Like many other families now, the Orang Asli are in dire need of basic necessities for their daily usage. Rice, oil, shampoo, etc. And I think just as how we look after the ones around us, this is yet another opportunity to serve and to love.”

Arwind told WORLD OF BUZZ that they are nearing their RM10,000 target but any further contributions would still be a great help towards the Orang Asli.
