Yesterday, we shared how the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has launched a new special number plate series featuring the acronym “MADANI” in reference to the policy framework and slogan of the current Federal Government.
Well, it looks like one particular plate number is getting more attention than the rest for the special plate number series, whereby Malaysians are rather invested in the cheeky “MADANI8481” plate number.
Malaysians are racing to bid for “MADANI8481” special plate number
In a viral post on social media, a Facebook user shared that vehicle owners are racing to bid for the aforementioned plate number on the JPJeBid system.
In the post, the user revealed that many Malaysians have placed a bid on the plate number, with the highest bid amounting to RM8,888 when it was posted.
The post has since gone viral with over 4,600 reactions and more than 457 shares.
The current highest bid for the plate number is RM9,999
WORLD OF BUZZ checked the latest highest bid for the plate number on the JPJeBID system, revealing that an individual or company has upped the bid seen in the post, with the highest bid as of the time of writing being RM9,999.
The RM9,999 bid was placed earlier today (21 October) at 8.16am. For context, bidding for the MADANI special plate number series ends on 23 October at 10pm, with the minimum bid for each plate number set at RM100.
Hence, the “MADANI8481” plate number may end up being sold at a much higher price than RM9,999, should there be higher bids placed.
The results of the bidding will be announced on 24 October and the revenue from the MADANI special number plates will be channelled to realise the Transport Ministry’s initiatives, namely the MyLESEN, Helmet Exchange and FlySISWA subsidies programmes, as well as PERKESEO payments to taxi drivers.
