YouTubers are known for making a lot of money, especially IF their content is well-made and relatable to the audience. A Malaysian YouTuber, however, said things have changed.
Malaysian YouTuber @Lin BigYong recently shared a conversation between him and other YouTubers – Bryson and Dennis, mentioning that it seems that fewer and fewer people watch YouTube now! What used to be a main income for many YouTubers seems to be different now.
“You can’t make money from being a YouTuber alone today. It seems like many people don’t really watch YouTube anymore.”
The title of the video is called, “Lesser audiences on YouTube? Is it time to say goodbye?”
Bryson himself said that he was informed by his friends that they rarely watched YouTube videos today, most probably due to other options that are available out there today.
“In the meantime, many social media users, particularly girls prefer Xiao Hong Shu (RED) and Instagram,” Dennis added.
The YouTubers also agreed that people who surf YouTube today are mostly there for talk shows that are uploaded on the platform, and they mostly watch it during lunch break or before they go to bed.
As for the comedy skits that many YouTubers often share, it seems like they’re slowly drifting away from the market.
“No one is really into the comedy skits anymore.”
The trio also highlighted about other YouTubers who decided to quit the industry after realising they couldn’t last long as YouTubers due to the decreasing number of audience.
In the video, they were also upfront about how much they make today, and the amount is probably much, much lesser than you think.
“As for me, I can make at least RM1,000 a month.”
With that figure staring at you, being a YouTuber alone is not enough.
They also agreed that a few years back, YouTube alone was a good source to make money, but not today.
To those who are ALWAYS on YouTube, what do you watch? As for our YouTuber friends, what’s you take on this?
