Since yesterday, 10 June, social media has been flooded with posts of SPM students receiving their results. Proud parents and loved ones rejoiced over these student’s achievements, regardless of the outcome.

In a Facebook post, a woman, Viknesvary Picchaiayya, took to her Facebook to rejoice over the SPM results of her next-door neighbour’s daughter, Thesikha Balamurugan.

Her post garnered over 7,000 shares, 1,600 likes and 1,100 comments in less than a day!

According to Viknesvary, the student, Thesikha, did not have it easy.

“This is the result of my neighbour’s daughter. You may say, what’s so proud of this? But I’m really proud of her. No tuition, no support system.

She wakes up every day at 5am to help her mother to wash clothes (no washing machine since they’re from a poor background) and do all sorts of housework before going to school. She also looks after her siblings,” Viknesvary wrote in her post.

“Parents are illiterate and are struggling financially”

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Viknesvary explained that Thesikha is the oldest among five siblings and her parents are struggling financially after losing their jobs recently.

“Both parents are illiterate and lost their job during MCO. Now they started to sell breakfast at my taman. They only earn a very small profit. In the evening, they would work at a palm oil plantation,” Viknesvary told WORLD OF BUZZ.

Despite having a lot to do and being an average student, Thesikha would still show interest in her studies and look for Viknesvary to help her.

“At the place that I am living at, there are no graduates among the Indian community. So, most of the kids will look for me and my sister if they had any doubts about their homework. She was one of them.

At first, I thought she doesn’t have any interest to study. But every time I teach her, I find that she is a very quick learner. At the same time, she has so much interest in studies,” Vinesvary said.

“So, I told her I’ll guide her for SPM. Since I’m also jobless, I sought help from my friend to donate some cash to buy reference book for her. My friend, Partiban donated RM150 and we used that cash to buy some books.

That’s how she started to do revision. Every day she would come to my house and together we will start to revise.”

“She never passed before, and this time she did”

According to Viknesvary, Thesikha had never passed any of her subjects before.

“In her life, she never passed. She failed every time. She never went for any tuition and always had house chores to do since she was in charge of looking after her siblings while her parents worked from morning to evening.

At the eleventh hour, she only managed to work hard for only two to three months. At last, she passed! No classes during MCO, parents lost their jobs, no tuition, had to take care of siblings, and still, she did well! Parents this is not the end. So please encourage your kids,” Viknesvary added.

Congratulations Thesikha for your achievement and all the best in your future endeavours!
