A 37-year-old man in Cheras ran away from home, but his family was forced to suffer the consequences after he left his debts with loan sharks unpaid.
According to his 63-year-old mother, the family has been receiving calls from the loan sharks, who threatened to kidnap the kids at home if the loans were not paid. The mother’s concern grew stronger when the loan sharks also intimidated the family by saying they would set the house on fire.
Overwhelmed by the threats and anxiety, the heartbroken woman decided to disown her son who had left home.

In a press conference at the Headquarters of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), the woman, Kwok, said that her son left on June 17, and since then, her phone has been ringing as loan sharks continue to terrorise the family.
A week after her son, who is unmarried and works as a kitchen helper, left home, the house was splashed with red paint. Kwok also said that no one knows how much her son owes, but she previously “sponsored” RM13,000 so that her son could pay the loan sharks two months ago.
This time, Kwok is unable to help her son again
“Whatever he does out there has nothing to do with us anymore. I hope the loan sharks will stop harassing the family. I have also lodged a police report against the matter,” Kwok cried.

MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong, who was at the press conference with Kwok, also said that he hopes the police will investigate the matter, and reminded the loan sharks to pursue the responsible party.
“Stop harassing innocent people,” he said.
Kwok also said that she had no idea why her son would resort to borrowing money from loan sharks.
