A Malaysian woman’s first step towards achieving financial security was derailed by a family dispute over her investment plans.
After paying around RM1,400 a month for a house intended as an investment, the woman was pressured to rent it out to her siblings for just RM600. Urged by her mother and other family members to offer a so‑called “siblings’ price”, she was left bewildered and disheartened that the value of her sacrifice had been reduced to less than half in the name of family.

“I cannot fathom the concept. It’s significantly less than what I pay every month.”
She added that she was further baffled after being told that owning an asset meant having to bear some losses.
“I bought the house as an investment,” she vented in her viral Threads post.
The woman also said she had read through all the comments on social media and was shocked to find that many users sided with her mother. While she accepted most feedback with an open heart, she said she could not tolerate comments that blamed her for the situation.
“To those who criticised me, I pray that you end up in a situation similar to mine,” she said.

“They might pay for three months, and that’s it.”
Still, not all hope was lost. Many social media users expressed sympathy for her situation, warning that involving family members in financial matters could lead to painful consequences.

One netizen advised her to avoid renting to relatives altogether, noting that payments might eventually stop.
“They’ll give excuses, your mum will get involved, and she may tell you not to be calculative. Eventually, your siblings will stay for free, and you won’t be able to chase them out.”
Others echoed similar sentiments.
“They’ll give an excuse, and your mum will be involved, and she might tell you not to be calculative. Eventually, your siblings will stay for free, and you can’t chase them out.”
Another user said, “You have to be firm. I said no when my mum asked for the same thing.”

“Please avoid financial dealings with family members unless they are truly sincere.”
Another netizen suggested that she tell her family there were other interested parties willing to pay a higher rental.
