Times are tough and with the ongoing inflation, it’s understandable how we can’t afford to buy a lot of things nowadays. Still, there’s never a valid reason for us to cheat our way into getting something we desire without paying for it.
Just recently, a Malaysian man went viral after he was exposed for producing a fake Touch N’ Go e-wallet receipt at a cheesecake bakery in Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru. All those hassle just to save himself from paying RM94 for a cheesecake, which he initially got away with the scam. Here’s how it happened.
On 12 April, the man in the black T-shirt purchased some items from the shop. He acted as if he was swiping his phone to open the TnG app to make an online payment by pretending to scan the QR code, and showed the cashier a “receipt”, which he had allegedly prepared earlier. 1 hour later, the transaction had not gone through, and that was when suspicion arose.
The bakery found out that there was no transaction amounting to RM94 made.
The owner then posted the CCTV footage of the man at the cashier on the bakery’s Facebook page and reminded the man to return the money he had scammed in 48 hours, or the police would be involved.
From the CCTV angle, the owner could see that the man did not even activate any mobile banking application but he was always ready with the altered receipt.

Soon after noticing his viral video, the man contacted the bakery owner and asked him to remove the video as he said he did not scam them.
“He insisted that he has paid, and even asked me why did I make him viral,” the bakery owner said.
Last night (April 13), according to a post from the bakery, the owner revealed that the man has since paid the money that he scammed from the place. The man transferred an amount of RM100 to the bakery, to which the latter also returned the RM6 change.
“He also apologised to us, so the case is now closed.”
The CCTV footage of the man that was shared on its Facebook page has since been removed, and the owner said he hopes has learned his lesson.
Even if there is an absence of CCTV cameras, we should never, ever lie just to get something we can actually afford.
