The Ministry of Health (KKM) recently shared that Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV), which is currently taking China by storm, is NOT a new disease. They added that in 2024, they had detected 327 positive samples of hMPV, as compared to the 225 cases in 2023.
Malaysian digital creator, Sathesh Steve G, took to his Facebook page to urge the general public to seek medical assistance immediately should they find themselves displaying hMPV symptoms, as he too had suffered from it.
He first took the time to share a snippet from a Sinar Harian article that lists down the symptoms, as explained by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC).
Among the symptoms are coughing, fever, a stuffy nose and wheezing. For severe cases, patients may experience bronchitis or pneumonia. Infants, the elderly and those with weaker immune systems are especially susceptible to the virus.
Meanwhile, people with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or emphysema are at the highest risk of contracting hMPV.
“The virus is transmitted through droplets or aerosols due to coughing or sneezing, and coming into close contact or exposure to a contaminated environment. The incubation period is from 3 to 5 days,” China CDC said.
Sathesh Steve G then urged the general public to immediately seek medical help should they display these symptoms.
“Guys, a gentle reminder. This is what happened to me, I suffered for 4 days. Please, if you guys have these symptoms, don’t wait to go to the nearest hospital and get treatment as soon as possible,” he said.
Thankfully, he has since added in the comment section that he is now feeling better!
