A recent video circulating online shows a group of friends casually celebrating Deepavali on the rooftop of a house.
Shared by TikTok user @sheeewaa_, the clip captures him and his friends enjoying snacks together on the roof during the festive day.

“I didn’t want my efforts to go to waste”
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Sheewa shared that it’s a family tradition to do a full house cleaning every year for Deepavali. He said he’s usually in charge of scrubbing and scraping the walls to prepare them for a fresh coat of paint.
He added that cleaning the roof is also part of the process, mainly because of the weather and the buildup of moss over time.
“Every year, I’m tasked with scrubbing and scraping the walls all around the house for a fresh layer of paint. Since our home is always lively with kids and pets, the walls often get doodled on, so we have to refresh them every year,” he explained.

Sheewa added that he and his childhood friends came up with the funny idea of having snacks on the roof as a joke, so his effort cleaning it “wouldn’t go to waste.”
“I uploaded the video too, and as expected, it got a lot of attention. I think what really struck people was our multiracial friend group; it showed that we can all come together and celebrate in a cultural way no matter our backgrounds,” he said.

Netizens started flooding the comments section with their thoughts and reactions.

“A lot of videos in the Deepavali Core 2025 trend show people cleaning their roofs. So now we know the real reason, they were actually making a hangout spot.”

“He brought the true 1Malaysia spirit up there to chill together.”

“This year’s Deepavali Core is so lively. Proud to be Malaysian. Happy Deepavali, guys!”
