In a recent heartwarming post shared on the Facebook page Arena Motor, teacher Mohd Fadli Salleh shared a touching story about an incident involving a student and the student’s parents.
The post explains how Teacher Fadli noticed one student arriving at school every day looking sweaty, but this wasn’t always the case.
The dad’s motorcycle was repossessed by the loan company
Teacher Fadli described how the student was usually dropped off by both parents, and they would all be sweaty early in the morning. Upon investigation, it turned out they walked from their home to the school, a distance of about 2 km.
Prior to that, the dad was working as a food delivery rider, which was the family’s main source of income. One day, after completing a delivery, he went to his parking spot only to discover that the motorcycle was missing.
Teacher Fadli went on to explain that the dad’s motorcycle had been repossessed due to overdue payments which were 4 months late.
The post mentioned,
“A letter from the loan company was given to him showing a large overdue amount. The father was left sitting down, as the motorcycle, which was their main means of transportation for earning a living, had been repossessed. He was deeply distressed.”
A father’s dedication
Despite not having a motorcycle, the responsible dad makes sure to walk with his child to school every day. The parents cover a total of 8km daily: 2km to school and another 2km back home in the morning, then the cycle is repeated when they go back to pick up their son after school ends.
“The student received the Outstanding Achievement Award in preschool. At that time, I was introduced to the student’s dad by the preschool teacher,” Teacher Fadli explained.
On the day of the Standard 1 Orientation, both parents dropped off their son, participated in the briefing, and stayed until the end of the program.
Teacher Fadli mentioned that it’s pretty rare for dads to attend orientation days since it’s usually the moms who go. But on that day, both parents showed up together.
“It’s truly admirable to see the dad’s dedication, even though the dad doesn’t have a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) certificate.”
“He’s determined to ensure his children receive a good education”
Teacher Fadli explained how the dad comes from a poor family with 10 siblings. He had to sacrifice his education and leave school in Form 4 because his family couldn’t afford it.
And even to that day, the dad tells Teacher Fadli how he still loves learning, as growing up he used to want to be a teacher, but his family’s circumstances didn’t support his dreams.
“The father’s spirit is truly admirable. I really like people like him who care about their children’s rights and prioritise education. After the program, I asked him to wait by the school gate. I drove his family home, and as he was about to get out of the car, I stopped him.”
“Many blessings will come in the future for the family”
When Teacher Fadli arrived at the family’s home, he asked the dad which motorcycle he preferred, as he wanted to buy one for him.
At first, the dad politely declined the offer. However, after some convincing, he agreed to let Teacher Fadli buy him a motorcycle and even suggested two options for him to choose from.
After they talked about the options, the dad thanked Teacher Fadli for his generosity, wished him well, and then walked back to his house.
“His child must be smiling with joy. His wife’s heart is blooming. A major problem that had been weighing heavily, a significant source of income that had lost its shine, is now glowing again,” Teacher Fadli added.
